DC Ward 8: Free Bootcamp

Yesterday, I had the priviledge of joining forces with DC Councilmember Trayon White & Georgetown University to provide a free 6-Week bootcamp for DC Ward 8.

Any DC Ward 8 resident, who is over 21 will get medical analysis, weekly nutrition education, & bootcamp 2-times per week for 6 weeks.

The purpose behind this initiative is to bring health & fitness awareness to the DC community. Let’s face the facts, urban communities are suffering from health disparities. Whether it be from lack of knowledge or lack of resources.

We kicked off this event yesterday, February 21st and let me tell you….it was nothing short of amazing. One community at a time, let’s positively impact others through health & fitness.

NEW World Record – Pushups

We often see world records set on television or hear about them in the news. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to witness greatness right before my eyes. Marcus Copeland, owner of Rezults Fitness, set a new world record with 2,810 push-ups completed in one-hour. Two thousand repetitions of anything is absolutely bananas. And many of us can’t even imagine saying we set a record, let alone a world record. As great and unbelievable as this accomplishment is, that’s not even the best part…..to me.

I currently hold personal training, group fitness, and sports training sessions at Rezults Fitness. Weeks leading up to this great event, you could see a different demeanor from Marcus. He may have tried to hide it, but you could tell he was beyond focused on the task at hand. We’d often talk about his preparation and practice runs to beat the record. This was his moment and he was not letting it slip through his fingers.

On the day of the event, Marcus started off strong – cranking out push ups with ease. As time grew on, you could see Marcus’ entire body shaking and trembling. Fatigue was undoubtedly setting in. I’ve been involved with sports for over 30 years and I’ve never seen someone sweat that much. There was literally a 5 foot by 1 foot pool of sweat beneath him. This brother had every excuse to give up, served to him on a silver platter. Arms burning, body drained of fluids, and overall exhausted. I was standing right behind the judges table. Looking at their scores with 2 minutes remaining, it looked like he was going to come up short. With 1 minute remaining, Marcus’ supporters began to roar with encouragement. Marcus shook his head and got this burst of energy from out of thin air. This was not a second wind – more like a fifth or sixth wind. One of the most unbelievable displays of determination I’ve ever witnessed. This was the true meaning of “Own Your Moment”. Set your goals, prepare for goals, and fight…fight…fight to achieve them.

Congrats to Marcus on your New World Record
